You Knew This Was Coming..

Health Care
I haven't seen the Michael Moore movie 'Sicko', and I'm not sure I will pay full price to see it in the theaters, but, hopefully it will start a discussion. I ran across this article on AmericaBlog and it has some good ideas. The article talks about the health care in France vs. US health care. Health Care costs in the US are in bad shape. Insurance costs are out of reach for most people, and without insurance, you can't get treatment. And that's just for regular checkups, God forbid you have a serious health issue. I'm not sure socialized medicine is the answer, but it may be a good place to start. Somehow we need to get the costs under control. Ever spent any time in a hospital? They charge you for everything, at exorbatant prices. My dad recently spent some time in the hospital, and they came home with several pitchers, plastic bowls, socks, and toiletries, that I'm sure cost more than they should have.

Then we have the Grady Health System in Atlanta, a public hospital and trauma unit. They are in serious financial straights and HAVE to find a way out. I've heard talk about privitization, but I don't think that will work. Grady should continue to take needy patients, we can't just turn them away. What about the Hippocratic Oath? Health care shouldn't be all about profit, it should be about results. Yes, I know there are MANY abuses of the system, as it stands now. What about an overhaul?

Then we have all the Other Bad Guys: Insurance Companies, Pharmacuetical Companies, Doctors and Politicians that Think they're doctors. We can't find an answer if we don't talk about it!
