Well, well, well. Methinks the Red Lady must take a chill pill! Read the first post for today and this will make much more sense, I hope. I haven't read Bill O'Reilly's book, nor do I really watch him on TV, I'm just not interested. But I will interject my opinion on some of the ideas presented by the Red Lady. Because I can.
First, the ACLU. As I was taught in my Public School classes, this country is a democracy. We are open to discussion, differing opinions and different outlooks. That's why we have the First Amendment, to allow a person or group to express their ideas without being jailed or worse. We need something like the ACLU to keep us on our toes. They will jump on many ideas, and we must think how it should or could be handled. Again, last time I checked, they were NOT a governing body and didn't pass laws.
2. Who the Hell is George Lakoff and why should we care? Lakoff is a linguist who wrote a thesis on conceptual metaphors. Based on what little I can gather from the Wikipedia link, I can only assume that the concepts referred to were taken way out of context. Then idea of 'secular-progressive movement' is a figment of Bill O'Reilly's mind. If you Google 'secular progressive' the only real quotes or definitions that come from this are in relation to Bill's book. That is a fact.
3. I did google George Soros and the Wikipedia 'bio' doesn't say anything about anything mentioned. He was born in Budapest, but is now an American citizen. He's made his millions by investing, same a Donald Trump. He and his family escaped from the Nazi's and came to America. Did you read why he broke the Bank of England? Bush the Elder and Margaret Thatcher wouldn't listen to his ideas on rebuilding countries destroyed by the dissolution of the Soviet Union. As for the lucrative real estate business in Bermuda, I'll bet Chainey doesn't have anything to do with off-shore investments, now does he??? The worst thing I read about Soros is he donated heavily to the Democrats to defeat Bush.
4. Another Who is Peter Lewis and why should I care?? So he runs an insurance company, we ALL know they take money from us and then pull out of an area when they have to pay the money back. (see South Florida after Hurricane Andrew). His biggest problem is he donates to the Dems and the ACLU.
5. The New York Times. I don't read the NYTimes, and don't care. But I did do some research and found the book mentioned 'Journalistic Fraud' written by Bob Kohn. He's appeared on Bill O'Reilly's show, so I guess their buds, and of course he's getting a Good Notice. But I did come across his blog which may be interesting to read, he gives examples of the bias, what was originally said and how it was distorted.
6. Christmas and the All Mighty Dollar. Hhuumm, kinda goes hand in hand, doesn't it? Who cares if someone wishes you a Merry Christmas??? They're only temporary staff at the local mall, and probably don't mean it anyway. And 'Christmas is what makes this country what it is'?? Ever heard of separation of Church and State? I believe you're speaking of Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men, not unmeasured materialism. The whole concept of Christ being sent to save us from our sins transcends politics, money, racism, class warfare, and pretty much everything else. So it Doesn't Matter.
7. Diminishing parental control over their kids. Huh? Hasn't that already happened? Except the 'government' hasn't diminshed the authority, the parents have Handed it over. Since I don't have kids, I can't really say anything, but In My Opinion, some parents aren't taking a strong stand on raising kids. In this day and age of Divorce, parents harbor much guilt in separating the family unit, and many may respond by being a little less authoritative. Some even try to be the childs friend and not parent. Parenting is a job I've never had and in many ways, I'm glad I don't have to go there.
8. Releasing known sex-offenders and child abusers. Don't really get much of what you're trying to say in this, except that some family who's child was abused filed a lawsuit for an outrageous sum against an organization the perpetrator of said crime wrote about. And the ACLU defended NAMBLA has 'free speech'. Well, as gross as it is, NAMBLA is free speech, as is the KuKluxKlan, the American Nazi Party, the White Supremecists, the Republicans and the Democrats. And this doesn't represent frivilous lawsuits? Of course, I don't have any details of this case except the ACLU was involved. Do I detect a theme here?
9. Seems to me this is bitching about Education in America. I haven't read Stossel's book, and I don't profess to follow all the school voucher issue, but in My Opinion, I don't believe we should have school vouchers. We all pay for taxes for education, but Joe Blow decides he wants his kids to go to another school, so he should get exempt from the taxes. But what about me? (It is all about me, isn't it?) I don't have kids. Why should I pay any education taxes? Why, because I want all children to get an education and by pulling money and children out of public schools isn't fixing public education. It's running away from the problem. And what constitutes a private education? Can they be held to the same standards that public schools are? Can they be held to ANY standards? They are private, so can't they do what they want, teach what they want? What if Joe Blow sends his kids to the school run by NAMBLA? (I know, keep it going...) I feel that as long as education is in the hands of the government, it has to be fair and balanced, as opposed to private schools and their private beliefs. But then the Government won't allow the teachers to teach about preventative birth control issues or, here in Cobb County, GA they can't teach about evolution. And what's this about the Teachers Union? Ever been a teacher? I've know many and they have NO SAY in what they must teach, how they teach is or even classroom control or who doesn't pass. The parents and the school board have all the say, and they aren't in the classroom. Ever been physically threatened daily at your job?
10. Again, I'm not sure the point you're trying to make here. Except that Charles Barkley is a Black Leader??? Oh God, that is a Very Scary Concept.
11. Hollywood is for entertainment. Do you really listen to actors and their ideas? Oh, right, there's always Ronald Reagan or Charleton Heston.
So there we have it, my response to your posting. You mention that the 'S-P' agenda is one of divisivness. I'm of the opinion that some 'Radical Rightests' are all about dividing the US. I don't hear much about harmony coming from Rush Limbaugh or his ilk. If you're not with us, you're against us. Very harmonously spoken. Oh yeah, and John Stossel is a libertarian.

Good response Blue! It is amazing to me how the far right is so into the "you are with me or you are unpatriotic and god hating." I want my civil rights and control over my own body, how does that make me such a bad person?
