Reasons to finish the job
Yes, WWII was different, but the point wasn't unlike Vietnam. We had to prevent the spread of Communism, as Hitler was about to take over Europe, along with assistance from Japan. Our goal in Vietnam was to do the same thing, prevent the spread of Communism. The war was a mess under the Johnson administration. If the plans Nixon had in place, as we were departing, were carried out afterwards, things "may" have gone much better for the South Vietnamese. All of our efforts and lives lost there were totally in vain.
The lives of those lost in Iraq will be in vain also, if we leave. It's important that Iraq is stablized, as Iran is sitting there, waiting to take it. If that happens, we're in trouble, as Russia is doing its best to accommodate Iran with nuclear weapons. As mis-managed as the war has been, bailing out when the going gets tough is not the ideals of what this country was founded on. We've got to let the radical Muslims know we're in it for the long haul. We can't forget Israel either. You know what the goal of the Islam nation is. Bush has listened to "all" of his military generals. You hear about the ones he disagrees with because that's what the defeatest media wants you to hear. Is losing the war acceptable? We're going to be fighting a terrorist community that is intent on taking over Europe completely (they're close to it, at the fault of European countries that have allowed it) before taking us.
At the same time, I do believe we should be policing ourselves here at home. There are too many factions here. A prime example was the attempted bombings in London over the weekend. We could take lessons from them. Fortunately, Homeland Security did prevent a couple of episodes here. I know you don't like the idea, but the Brits have thwarted major problems in the recent past with stepped up security, including many more public cameras. Don't forget, we almost had a major calamity in the skies with all those planes flying from the UK to the U.S.
We are fighting a battle at home and abroad, whether people like it or not. One thing is for sure, it cannot be denied, and they're a dangerous group to deal with. Unless you want generations to come to be praying to Allayh, then perhaps acknowledging what is taking shape is essential.
