In Appreciation

Just a comment about Lady Bird Johnson. I don't remember much about her as First Lady, I was very young and not really interested in politics, and my mother, the biggest influence of my early life, is a died in the wool Republican and didn't have much to say about Johnson. I can't say I've done a lot of reading about either Johnson, but Lady Bird was successful in establishing the first environmental campaign. I do remember her 'Keep America Beautiful' campaign, planting flowers along roadsides and raising awareness of littering. I'm sure there was much more to her than that, but that alone deserves recognition. She had a tough time keeping up with Lyndon, a pretty demanding man. From what I've read about him, he was a True Texan, bold, brash, demanding and rough around the edges, so I imagine any woman would have had a tough time with that. Anyway, the is about Lady Bird, not Lyndon. She passed a few days ago, at the age of 94.
