RE: Jerry Falwell
I went to college very close to Falwell's Liberty Baptist College, we even played their team in soccer. I never did care for what Jerry preached, but I do give him credit for building an empire from a small, sparsly attended drive-in movie theater. He had guts.
BUT... He pushed for religion in politics, which, even though this country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, it also was founded on SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. This is something Falwell didn't seem to understand. Just check out the historical facts, the Catholic Church and now the Muslim beliefs. Religion and government don't work.
Jerry was also a crazy man. His belief that homosexuals, abortion rights and the ACLU caused the attacks of Sept 11 was embarassingly off base. How could any sane, intelligent person make such acusations? And the whole teletubby episode? He may not have written the article (What article) but he supported the theory. Doesn't he have anything else to do???
In his defense, he's one of the few anti-choice advocates who actually set up homes and adoption centers to take these unwanted babies and adopt them out to Christian families.
If he was such a pious man, let's take a look at his personal income tax returns. I'll bet he didn't live in a log shack. I'll bet he didn't drive an old beater car that needed repairs. I'll bet he DID live better than most folks in Lynchburg, Va.
And remember, the Moral Majority is Neither.
