Political BS and Stretching the Truth
It's comments and accusations like these that really make me hate politics. The statement 'What Gore didn't mention is that he grew up on a tobacco farm, worked on it, and continued to accept checks from that farm for years after his sister died.' is inherently true. But what it doesn't mention, and what is factual truth, Al Gore was the son of a Senator (Al Gore, Sr) and grew up in Washington, DC. Now, I grew up in the DC area also, and I don't recall any tobacco farms. The fact is that Al Gore's Grandfather owned a tobacco and cow farm in Tennessee and Al Gore spent summers there. I don't know if he actually shredded tobacco as he claims, but he did claim to have invented the internet, too.
All candidates of all party affiliations do the same thing, they run with a shred of truth and spin it to make the opposing candidate look bad. That's why you have to know where the quote comes from. Even on the Internet, you may find a quote that looks good, but you must check the owner of that website, the information may not be completely true. Which is why lots of Americans are apethetic about politics, what you hear isn't going to be the entire truth, even from the newspapers. The primaries are another good example, each candidate is trying to find trash on the other IN THE SAME PARTY, only to smear them in print and on TV. When the candidate loses, he/she backs the other candidate that was just libeled to go against the other party. It all sucks.
I'm not really a big Gore fan because of his lovely wife, Tipper. Way back in the early 80's she was involved in a censorship campaign to have record albums labeled for content. I don't think censorship has any place in American society.
Hipocrasy is another trait shared by all politicians. In my opinion, hypocrasy is especially rampant with candidates that try to legalize morality. Back in the Day, (early '90's) in Ft. Lauderdale, sensational arrests were made when Kathy Willets and her husband were arrested and charged with prostitution. Seems Jeff Willets was a Broward County Sheriff and he was prostituting his wife among the rich and famous of Ft Lauderdale, including the Vice Mayor Doug Danzinger, who, by the way, had just won re-election on a platform of ridding Lauderdale of all sex-oriented business. Then, of course, there's everyone's favorite, Newt Gingrich. He and several other Republicans lead the call for impeachment for President Clinton as a result of the investigation of Bill Clinton's sex life, all the while carrying on his own affair with a staffer, for whom he left his 2nd wife. Did anyone ever ask Newt if he'd done Calista on his desk in the House? Most politicians look at themselves as above the law, but ready to point out the faults of the opposition. I guess this is the competitiveness that leads them to be politicians.
