This letter to the editor appeared in the Savannah (Ga.) Morning News. The letter is self-explanatory. After you finish reading this there will be no need for any further commentary:
Modified community needs civil rights protections
Because of my body modifications, including tattoos and piercings, I consider myself to be a member of the modified community. Due to my modifications, I not only have to deal with the daily routine of turned up noses and annoying questions from those without any body modifications, but I have to fight even harder to get a job than someone without any visible modifications.
So this brings up the question of whether laws should exist to protect modified people against job discrimination.
I believe we as a modified culture should be protected against discrimination just as African Americans, Jews and homosexuals are. During job interviews, we are looked down upon and assumed to be unintelligent. Employers view us as less of an asset to their company than those without body modifications.
If we are lucky enough to be offered the job due to our outstanding qualifications, we are required to remove our piercings and cover our tattoos. I ask, is this fair? Employers cannot ask a Jewish man to remove his Star of David pendant or tell a black woman to make sure her skin is covered because her pigment if offensive to some people.
Why do we as a modified culture have to suffer because of the changes we have committed to; as well as the way we choose to represent and express ourselves?
Being modified should not hinder our ability to get a job, as long as those modifications do not affect our ability to perform the necessary tasks required of that job. I will have the same education, the same skills, and the same passion regardless of modifications.
With any luck, in time, society as a whole will be able to view those of us with modifications the same way as they do anyone else.
So next time you are walking down the street and see someone with tattoos and piercings, think twice before making assumptions and realize that they are just the same as you, just with more decorations.

LAUGH OF THE WEEK
And speaking of prison inmates ....
As you probably know, Michael Vick has turned himself in to federal authorities to begin serving a jail sentence even before that sentence is actually handed down. The sooner he goes in, the sooner he gets out ... and the sooner he can try to get his NFL career back on track.
Now .. here's the laugh of the week. Vick's attorney is Billy Martin. Here's what Martin had to say to the press after Vick disappeared behind the barbed wire:
"From the beginning, Mr. Vick has accepted responsibility for his actions, and his self-surrender further demonstrates that acceptance,"
I'm busting a gut here! Let's see ... Vick lied to Arthur Blank, the Falcon's owner. He lied to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. He lied to the fans .. and he only "accepted responsibility," as his attorney phrases it, after his homies turned on him and started copping pleas.
Please, Mr. Martin. Stick to practicing law. Your comedy act isn't going to take you very far.

For all (especially feminists) that believe our efforts are being wasted in trying to help some gain democracy. Where is your cry for human rights for your gender in other countries? Seems people hate the Bush administration more than wanting to protect their "sisters" in other parts of the world.
THE SAUDIS DEFENSE
Can you believe these messed-up mullahs? Last week Saudi Arabia was under a microscope after a story broke about a woman who was gang-raped receiving 200 lashes as punishment. Punished for being raped! Now Saudi Arabia is trying to defend this kind of punishment.

More from the "idiots" department.
MEXICO ON U.S. POLITICS
Mexico's President Felipe Calderon has decided that he wants to tell US presidential candidates what they can and cannot say on the campaign trail. Apparently talking about illegal immigration is a big no-no. He says that there is a "growing harassment" of Mexicans in America ... golly, I wonder why. But I'm sure he meant the illegal ones. Calderon refers to illegal immigrants are "thematic hostages." Now there's a new one.

These people are waste material and need to be shipped back where they originated.
Remember that government Arabic-language school in Brooklyn? The founder and former head is filing a lawsuit against the city's education department for wrongly forcing her to resign because of negative media coverage.

Something inspiring for a change!
A girl competing in the Ohio state high school cross country championship breaks her leg in two places during a race, but she is so determined to finish that she crawls the rest of the way to the finish line.

Oh the insanity! This is so ridiculous it's funny. Any excuse to further separate us from our traditions in this country.
And now for a little pseudo-insensitivity ... Holiday Feasts Increase Global Warming. Give the warmers another year and I'm sure this story will become reality.
