30 years ago today
It's been awhile since I've posted, but there's no real reason to as of late. I did want to make mention of this being the 30th anniversary of the "king's" death. I'm sure it's trivial to some, but you can't argue with the numbers that have turned up at Graceland and Tupelo. I appreciate American icons, and Elvis appears to be THE one. While viewing GMA this morning, Diane Sawyer had recorded an interview with Lisa Marie. It was almost haunting to look back at Graceland, as it is the way it always was, and that's a good thing. Evidently, he meant something to many people, and some things shouldn't change. He wasn't just a superstar, but the epitome of what this country has always stood for. He went from being very, very poor to rather wealthy. I think he's probably more wealthy in death than he even was while living. He was a kind, talented, and spiritual person. Unfortunately, his fame was so great, he developed some odd ways about him, but deep down, he appeared to be a good person.
I, for one, am glad there is a celebration of this sort. There hasn't been anyone since Elvis, and his influence has graced many a name. Even Sir Elton John credits him for the influence he had on him. His charisma has not been matched. I wonder if it ever will be.
