Thanks For Nothing

This is to the Georgia Legislature: Thanks for nothing. What a bunch of useless quacks. The last day of the current session was supposed to be on Friday, but due to budgeting conflicts, they now will have a special session.

There seems to be just a bit more money left over somehow, and the legislature was trying to figure out what to do with it. This being an election year, the Republicans wanted to refund the money to property owners and labelled it as 'tax relief'. Gov. Purdue threatened to veto the budget, saying some important programs weren't getting funded, such as Peach Care, medical insurance for under-priviledged children. The Legislature passed the budget anyway, Purdue vetoed it and now we have a special session.

I find several things wrong with this: They already have the money, use it wisely. Pay for programs that exist and aren't getting funded, move the money around. If they refund the money and the programs aren't funded, they will just have to get it somewhere else, cutting other programs or even (gasp!) raising taxes. Use it while you have it. Second, the cost of the special session will probably negate any 'tax refund' so what's the use? What is better: Give us back the money and run up a bill or just re-allocate the money and we can all be happy. This isn't a policy issue anymore, it's male egos and pride. Get over yourselves.
