Don Imus

I have some friends that listen to this guy, although I never have. I do know of his reputation for being the "equal opportunity offender". I also think he went over the line this time when speaking of the Rutgers female basketball team. Here's my issue about his being put out to pasture for two weeks. Don't we have free speech in this country? That's what I hear all the libs ranting about when they spew hatred for this country and our administration. That's what I hear when they see no problem with burning our flag. If people don't like hearing something, they turn the television or radio off, period. That is what directly affects the ratings, and people like this will do themselves in all by themselves. When ratings drop, they will also.

The irony and hypocrisy over this incident is laughable. I saw that Walters & Company (without Rosie) were talking about this. They even admitted that people have a right to say what they want and not lose their jobs. Well, I'm impressed since Rosie has lead a tirade against this country in an open forum over the last couple of months. I'm guessing that "Wa Wa" is waiting for the ratings to continue dropping before letting the imbecile loose.

Then we have Jesse Jackson (who never misses a chance to stage a protest) and Al Sharpton wanting Imus' head. Well, when have these two NOT defamed others, and they're living off their own people very well, thank you. If these two had real jobs, they may think twice. The disappointing thing about all of this is the manner in which Imus went to Sharpton to publicly apologize. I'm sick of people saying what they feel, then immediately apologizing for it. Mel did it. Tim Hardaway did it. The comedian from Seinfeld (I can't remember his name) did it. Yet, it's quite alright for our politicians to perpetually trash our country, our administration, and anything else they don't agree with, for the world to see, while playing into the radical Islamists hands. These are serious allegations. I also didn't see Al or Jesse going after Latrell Sprewell when he choked his coach, or any of the other NBA thugs that participate in criminal activity. I suppose if you're of the black persuasion, you are still a victim (while making millions of dollars to play a game) and have every right of passage to misbehave. Talking about people that should have lost jobs and been in jail.

BTW, Imus and his wife have a ranch for children with cancer, of which 10% are black. They also do a lot for the community and are quite charitable. That is no excuse for making provacative statements that raise the ire of the targeted, but this guy is not a thug by any means. Perhaps the double-standard in this country is finally provoking people to express what has been surpressed for so long. I could always use this illogical excuse for what Imus said, but then I'd be just like the idiots that act in this way when it's convenient for them.
