Bills that won't make it this session

After viewing the bills that won't make it in this session, I found one interesting that did.

The battle for citizens voting on Sunday alcohol sales has been nixed for the time being. It's not the end of the world, but I think the principle, more than anything else, is what bothers me. Another one that got nixed is allowing faith-based initiatives to perform some government duties, something I don't believe my tax dollars should go to. Too many religious ideas involved in both of these. You cannot legislate morality!

The proposed bill to recognize April as the Confederate History and Heritage month has been knocked down for the time being. The interesting part of this one is it hasn't taken long for the state Senate to pass the "apology for slavery" bill. I think it's still in the House. Here's a real conflict. The Blue Lady questioned why we should recognize our Southern history recently, and why we just don't let it go? Well, as long as the NAACP doesn't let it go, the white people will have a difficult time doing so. Why have a formal apology for something we, right here today, did not do to them, right here today? Hell, the majority of whites didn't have slaves. None of us were involved in the slave issue, it's been over for over 150 years, yet blacks won't leave it behind. Maybe they should be more concerned about what is happening to their "African" brotheren in other countries and do something about that. They won't because, the truth is, they really can't relate to slavery and continue to use it as an excuse to be a victim of the "white man's" society. Perhaps they should go to Africa and live for awhile. Perhaps they'd be thankful to be in this country. Perhaps they'd consider themselves simply Americans and not "African" Americans.
