Friday the 13th
Before I depart for the gulf coast of Florida, just a couple of notes on the big events of the week.
Upon leaving for work this AM, I heard where an ABC poll showed 2 to 1 that people didn't think Imus should have been fired. By 9:30, that number had risen to 3/4 of the voters favoring Imus, and this is a network that everyone watches, not right or left wing. I guarantee that in a short while after this fiasco settles, he'll be working again, probably on satellite radio. CBS stands to lose $15 million annually by doing away with his show. These polls obviously show that he does have a following, even now. Oh, if only I had the money to start the radio show myself!
ABC also had another poll, which doesn't surprise me. Earlier this AM, 2/3 of voters said that Mike Nifong should be disbarred, even though there were four categories in which to choose what should happen with him. The justice in this incident is that his legal career is, for all intents and purposes, finished. There is still the possibility of civil suits, but these families are soaking in the moment and gathering their thoughts after a year of hell. I'd go for some of Duke's endowment if I were to sue. They have the money, and it cost these families a fortune to see this through. Granted, some Duke alum supported them, but there are still a load of legal expenses. Nifong doesn't, nor does Crystal Gail Mangum, the stripper. I do believe she should be responsible in some capacity. She did waste taxpayers money on a false accusation. There is a law against that. Perhaps she can repay the D.A.'s office by performing community service, and I don't mean servicing in the manner she is accustomed to. After all, this isn't the first time she's pulled this stunt.
