Weapons of Mass Destruction?
Seems that Mr. Bush is making noises that Iran has weapons of Mass Destruction and he will do something about it. Here we go again! He can't be the President of the United States and the Middle East. We can't police that culture, no one can. I really hope he doesn't think that he can start a war in Iran based on his previous (faulty) observations in the Middle East. That culture over there isn't suited to a Democracy now, maybe never. The change has to come from within, not by external forces.
Back in the day, before the Iranian Hostage Crisis, before the Ayatollah Khomeini , there was the Shah, Reza Pahlavi. Put in power by several other countries, his rule was pro-Western, pro-Israel, and pro-women's rights. But some people didn't want this, and in 1979, he was deposed by Khomeini. So Iran had a chance at a society with more Western ideas, and looked what happened, they choose to step backwards into religiously controlled Dark Ages.
The difference between then and now, we didn't occupy the country. We muscled our way in in a diplomatic, political way.
I don't profess to be a Middle East expert by any means. I just understand (I think) the concept of trying to change a culture. I've always questioned the concept of making everyone a democracy, some cultures just aren't ready to be ruled by consensus, as in a democracy.
Speaking of Dark Ages
A Tennessee lawmaker, a Republican, has proposed legislation that would require doctors to issue a Death Certificate for aborted fetuses. What? Last time I checked, abortion was legal, like it or not. In doing further research, I discovered this lawmaker, Stacey Campfield, is a joke. Just google his name. He evidently has issues with reading and writing. He, a lilly white Republican, wants to join the Black Caucus. How do these people get into positions of authority? I guess someone has to vote for them.
